1st Day

Do you think the final drawing you made reflects the environment you portrayed through the pictures?

Yes, I think my final drawing does reflect the new environment I explored because, by looking and choosing the main elements that stood out to me from each image, I was able to create a dynamic drawing that contained the main elements I looked at when going into that new environment. I think researching different artists that weren't necessarily printmakers helped me look at the elements of a space differently and more attentively which helped me analyse my photographs more.

What were the main challenges you encountered today and how did you deal with them?

I think the main challenge I experienced today was not only the drawing but also trying to portray an image into a set amount of shapes. I think today's exercises were really out of my comfort zone as I do not consider myself really good at drawing, but having a limited amount of lines I could draw definitely helped me look at my images better and select the main elements of the image that I found worth drawing. I think this exercise will also inform my photography in the future as it gave me skills that I could transfer when taking pictures.

3rd Day

How do you think this project challenge the way you create an illustration?

Before carrying this project I did not really focus much on illustration and drawing because I still do not think I am very good at it, but I do think that this week's project taught me how to approach illustration in a more challenging and compelling way. By combining three images together I think I really went out of my comfort zone and learnt to be patient when it comes to creating an outcome.
I do think that the photography side of this project and going into an environment and recording my experience on camera because I think the photographs really reflect my experience rather than the actual print.

What do you think you could improve next time?

I think on a practical level next time I could improve my final piece by using the facilities at Archway instead of trying to create the final print at home. However, I do think that sometimes the process is much more important than the final outcome. Either way, something else I could improve is perhaps take a wider range of photographs taken before creating the drawings as I would have more images and shapes to choose from.
